Visit Totem Park
You’re probably going to spend a lot of time outdoors, enjoying nature. While you’re at it, why not soak up some history, as well?
If you want to learn about our diverse history, visit Totem Park to get up close and personal with the beautiful totem designs that were inspired by the Tlingit people and the Russian fur hunters.
Here, you’ll experience the artwork but also learn about the meaning behind each totem pole.
Baranof Island Brewing Company
We’re known for a lot more than Sitka fishing – we also make a fantastic selection of beers. The high-class flavor comes from a combination of glacier-fed Alaskan water and an artistic blend of malts and hops. It gives you a taste of the city you can’t experience anywhere else or any other way.
Unfortunately, it’s only a tasting venue, so you won’t be able to take any back with you to the mainland, as you can only buy up to 36 ounces per person.
Wildlife Boat Tour
We really hope our Alaska salmon fishing charter isn’t the only boat tour you’ll experience during your stay. We highly recommend you book an excursion specifically designed for whale watching and enjoying nature in the open waters.
You’re sure to see a lot more than whales in their natural habitat – as if that weren’t incredible enough!

Learn about how their history intertwines with our own at the Native Brotherhood Hall. They’ll tell stories through dance and poetic gestures as they share the traditions of the Tlingit families throughout the years.
Island Artists Gallery
Don’t leave Sitka without experiencing the local art.
You’ll soak up plenty of nature with Sitka fishing adventures and whale tours, but devote some time to seeing our locally produced artwork.
There is so much on display at the Island Artists Gallery, which is owned collaboratively by 25 local artists. A few examples of what you’ll see include:
- Photographs of our scenery
- Handmade jewelry
- Wooden and clay sculpted masks
- Light catchers
Take home a piece of the art and your travels by purchasing a souvenir at the gift shop.
Herring Cove Trail
It will be unheard of if you came to our great state and didn’t go hiking. We recommend going on a journey to Beaver Lake through the woods. Don’t worry, you won’t get lost, as the trail is properly marked to guide you to your destination.
As far as hikes go, the Herring Cove Trail is medium difficulty.
If you’re in good shape, the entire hike should last a couple of hours. We recommend going in a large, talkative group because you might stumble across more than birds and deer in these woods. It’s known for bears, too, but they avoid loud groups.
