The Kimshan
The “Kimshan” is a customized 35 ft long, 13 ft wide Bertram Fishing Boat made in 1972. It is the only boat they use for all bookings of fishing trips. The fishing platform is on the back deck, and it measures 16 ft by 13 ft. It is great for up to six anglers to fish comfortably without any tangles. Twin diesel engines push the boat at a speed of 23 knots, with a top speed of 30 knots. These engines are made by Cummins, a popular diesel engine manufacturer.
Complete Reconstruction
After purchasing the boat from Virginia, Cody had it delivered to Seattle, Washington, by truck. From Seattle, it was shipped on a barge to Sitka. He proceeded to strip the boat down to the hull and rebuild it to Cody’s custom specifications. He replaced the structures with stronger, more modern materials, such as fiberglass, aluminum, and stainless steel. He completed the boat with a walkaround deck and more headroom in the cabin with over six and a half ft of clearance.
Other upgrades include a sit-down electric flush head on deck, dual heat sources, and more custom features to make the day more comfortable and productive. Plus, the boat has a dry exhaust, which means the exhaust exits the vessel around 13 ft above the waterline. So you’ll never experience the diesel exhaust smell when motor mooching or trolling. Top-of-the-line equipment and gear are used on every fishing trip Captain Cody takes. He uses hydraulic downriggers that are custom-built for effective trolling deeper than other charter boats in Alaska. In this process, he uses either Seeker, Gloomis, or TFO rods. The reels are also all top quality brands like Accurate, Avet, and Shimano reels.
